The Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
Inclusiveness.
A service provider, a college or University, in fact anyone has a duty to apply this act by LAW.
If they do not, everyone has a right to contact the EHRC (Equality Human Rights Commission) and ask for an enforcement right to be applied against a particular organisation.
Just for info, the EHRC are going for the biggest law breakers at the moment, e.g. the Home Office and Redbridge Council should be next? - (November 2007 , allegedly).
I believe, as regards Redbridge, that a cost cutting exercise has been put in place for all those who are claiming DDA rights, to reapply for benefits and linked to a specific case worker. The case worker has been recommended to NOT offer any benefits. The person whom is suffering, then has to go through quite a stressful period in which they are expected to reduce their cost to the Redbridge local authority.
I would like to see all Redbridge councillors (who voted for this), to spend some time in a wheelchair. Then make an informed decision as to whether they still need a case worker, and whether they can cope with the new restrictions that are being enforced to save money, by pushing young 'healthy' adults into an environment (care homes for the elderly) where the facilities are not fit.
I have nothing against the new regulations of Redbridge, just the ignorannce of those implementing these regulations; and the fact they are breaking the new Laws. I would ask that the EHRC take action against them, do you have a better description.
The EHRC does not make itself clear about your rights, or maybe it does, but login to any good Union site, e.g. UCU, Unison, etc. to learn your rights.
Here is an email, to the Redbridge Solicitor, which is also copied to the EHRC:
Hello,
Probably not the best time to email, late on a Saturday night, wine, etc. But, I thought you may be interested in the fact that I am about to report Redbridge to the EHRC (replacing the DRC) as regards the DDA Act of 2005.
I have a personal interest, but this is not a selfish reason for noting that the decisions by Redbridge councillors to decrease the levels of benefits to those with a 'true need', is far away from the merits of this new act.
This reporting will be against all councillors, and yourself, who I would hope was the person whom explained the issues of the DDA Act. If not, then you are as guilty as the rest of these morons.
This email is just a reminder that you may wish to start thinking about where the Borough as a service provider is failing, and due to the levels of stress being produced in a group that have disabilities and are 'running scared' of these changes; I am looking forward to taking the Borough to the limits, against discrimination of those who need their help.
In addition, I will be adding all information to a web site; naming all those who are in favour of limiting help to those whom should be receiving help, i.e. those who are being discriminated against, and the discriminators (YOU).
More to follow, but I hope this can be sorted out amicably, before the EHRC (who are taking a really hard stance against people like you, e.g the Home Office), need to be contacted. Copying in, anyway. [Laugh ]
Best

p.s. I am currently a Safety officer, UCU committee member, and general member of public who cares, plus being a Christian. The Redbridge Councillors are obviously none of these.
p.p.s. Copying in the EHRC for comment.
[I look forward to all of this info in google, which should not take too long]
